About XML Sitemaps

An XML sitemap is a file that lists all the important URLs on your website. It helps search engines like Google and Bing discover and crawl your pages more efficiently, ensuring that all your content gets indexed.

A well-structured sitemap should include the lastmod date to indicate when content was last updated, helping search engines prioritize crawling of recently changed pages.

Google imposes a limit of 50,000 URLs per sitemap file and a maximum file size of 50MB (uncompressed). For larger sites, use a sitemap index file to reference multiple sitemap files.
